To Whom It May Concern:
I take great pleasure in recommending Longgang Wu, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program in Machinery Manufacturing.
I have known Mr. Wu 5 years since his freshman year at Harbin Engineering University. At that time, he took the course “Advanced Manufacturing Technology”, which I taught mainly for junior students Majoring in Mechanical Engineering. To my surprise.
I found he was among the few students in his class who could keep up with the pace of my lectures. Moreover, he often posed thought-provoking questions during the course.
Thus it was natural that I liked discussing with this young man and became familiar with him. The more I knew him, the more I found he was talented at Mechanical Engineering.
As you can see, he got excellent scores on the course. In fact, he ranked No.1 on this 27 hours course.
After the course, he was admitted as a Master of Mechanical Engineering. As his research adviser, I direct his research and found his a promising youth radiating with intelligence and creativity.
During the following two years, Mr. Wu worked on a computational theory study of Drag Reduction Characteristics of Bionic Jet Surface.
To make the theory model meet the actual materials, he faced down many practical problems, such as building reasonable module of inorganic materials, and calculation techniques. Working hard and independently, he cracked the problems one by one, and came up with a thesis that was characterized by academic excellence.
In my experience with Mr. Wu, I was impressed with not only his extraordinary intelligence but also his ambitions and persistence. I am sure that Mr.
Wu will be an outstanding student in any doctoral program that he may care to enroll in. So I would like to support him firmly in his quest recommendation into account when considering his application. I would greatly appreciate it you decide to accept him as he wishes.
Yours sincerely Gang Zhao

Dear Dr. xx,
Dr.xx requested a letter of reference from me to support his application for the postdoctoral position in your laboratory. As his former advisor, I think highly of Dr.xx, therefore I am very delighted to comply with his request.
I knew him in the summer of xx, when he joined my research group on function of Chinese electro-acupuncture in hypocholesterolemia as the only undergraduate research assistant. In this group, he was responsible for the aspects of assisting to construct the animal model and gathering data. Though that work was ordinary, he performed every task carefully, and presented his ideas to help improve the experimental results. Many times I saw that he still worked at about 11p.m. when I left. I wondered how energetic he could be and appreciated his trait of diligence and dependability very much.
One year later, he became a graduate student and joined my laboratory while I had the Genetic Engineering course of him. His curiosity and insatiability provided him with enthusiasm to broaden his knowledge in molecular biology. At the end of the semester, he got a good score ranking within top 5% of the class. After finishing his courses in 2009, he went on the research project to isolate hypercholesterolemia-associated genes. While managing the project, he showed me with his excellent experiment ability and independent thinking aptitude. What impressed me most was his persistence and optimism. In the presence of pressure, he was rather enjoying the process of the research instead of being uncomfortable with fear and avoidance.
One thing I must emphasize is that Dr.xx has made lots of progress from a junior student to an experienced researcher by dint of hard work. As a result, his effort is rewarded by a paper published in xxx which has been the most excellent one completed by graduate student in our college so far. That has won him recognition from not just me but my colleagues as well.
However, Dr. xx is not satisfied with the current achievement and has set up his career goal. As he told me his willingness to proceed with his postdoctoral career in your vigorous laboratory, I could understand his heart of seeking more academic advancement there and applauded his strong desire and decision to take his dedications and skills to the next level. With your help, I believe this ambitious young man will be an excellent scientific researcher.
I sincerely expect the information I provided above could be helpful for you to assess Dr. xx’s application and consider him favorably. Further information is available if you need.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr. xxx

Dear colleagues:
This is to recommend Ms. Shan Shan, a graduate from this university’s department of International Business Management, for acceptance into your MBA program.
I have known Ms. Shan as a resourceful and goal-oriented individual since 1990,
when she attended a lecture I delivered, at which she asked perceptive and
challenging questions. Although she did not officially take a course with me, she
often consulted me on issues arising out of her studies. I therefore have come to know her well. I feel strongly that Ms. Shan’s unusual talents and abilities will stand her in good stead for a quality MBA education, which should serve as a major boost to her career.
While at this university, Ms. Shan was an outstanding student, boasting excellent performance in all subjects of her studies and demonstrating great potential. Her overall GPA ranked her among the top 3 in her class of 40 students. But Ms. Shan was no bookworm devoted exclusively to exams. She read extensively in subjects outside her major, particularly in business law, marketing, finance and journalism, all of which seemed to be fascinating to her. In recognition of her intellectual strengths, the department offered, at the time of her graduation, to accept her into its graduate without the normally mandatory examinations. She, however, turned down the offer.
A highly independent woman, she already had her own agenda set. She wanted to obtain practical management experience first and then proceed to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administrative in your country. She apparently made the right decision, for she has since become one of our most successful graduates in her crop of students.
Ms. Shan is good at communicating in both oral and written English. Some of he most important undergraduate courses were taught by American professors, many of whom considered her oral English as native and her written English as standard. I am sure that she has since improved her English a lot more in her professional life.
In Ms. Shan, we all saw an optimistic and easy-going character. With highly unusual determination, she is not to be daunted by any difficulties. She believes that, with hard work, she can achieve anything she wants. I think her confidence in herself is well grounded in her track record, especially when considering the fact that she entered into this university as the daughter of a most impoverished family, but graduated as a top student.
Judging by what I know of her, I think Ms. Shan is fully qualified to pursue an MBA degree in your program. I therefore recommend her with enthusiasm. And I shall greatly appreciate if you can favorably consider her application for admission and financial aid.
Yours sincerely
