　　On the evening there will be a big family dinner. People who work far away from their homes will try to come back for the union. After dinner， people will light the lanterns which are usually red and round. Children will play with their own toy lanterns happily.

　　近年来，在中国大地刮起了一股“英语热”：各种英语辅导班名目繁多，数不胜数；走在大街上，随处可见听着录音机，背诵英语单词的莘莘学子；各种英语教辅书更是琳琅满目，目不暇接。在一片学习英语的浪潮中，许多人把学好英语当成成才的唯一途径，甚至有的人开始持“英语重，汉语轻”的思想。这不能不引发我们的思考。

　　英语作为一门在世界上广泛使用的语言，在各个领域发挥了重要作用。但是，我们也应看到，汉语和英语同样作为语言，并无孰优孰劣之分。《辞海》中对汉语是这样解释的：“汉语，汉族的`语言。我国的通用语言。国际通用语言之一，属汉藏语系。”而它对英语的定义是：“英语，英美等民族的语言。国际通用语言之一。属印欧语系日耳曼语族西日耳曼语支。”解释虽有些专业，但也足可见汉语和英语同样作为人类表情达意的工具，是没有高下，优劣之分的。
