进入午门，走过金水桥，再走过太和门，映入眼帘的是太和殿，真不愧是古代的皇家宫殿，殿外的栏杆是用汉白玉雕刻的，殿内的椅子、扶手、柱子和屋顶，竟都是金子做的。太和殿是故宫里最中央的一个宫殿，也是皇帝行政的地方，所以，太和殿是所有宫殿阁楼中最壮观、最精致的。在太和殿的屋顶上，龙的九子之一—嘲风，栩栩如生的立在屋顶的两个角尖上。
走出太和殿，走过中和殿、保和殿和乾清宫，再往前走，就来到了御花园。园内建筑多数倚靠着围墙，只有少数精美造型的亭台搭建在园中。园佳木葱茏，其古柏藤萝，皆数百年物，将花园点缀得情趣盎然。各色的石子铺在地上，拼成了900多幅不同的图案，沿路欣赏，趣味无穷。在古代，这里是帝王后妃休息散心的地方，老百姓不得踏入半步，所以，在古代老百姓眼中，这里就是一个地地道道的"紫禁城"。御花园以它古木繁花、亭台楼阁、嶙峋山石......的美丽而闻名遐迩。
故宫还有许多许多的宫殿阁楼，如：储秀宫，永寿宫，万春亭。走进故宫，你就已经置身于它最宏伟，最重要的`展示品——紫禁城宫殿群中。
